Extended Hands is a home away from home for seniors who no longer are able to live alone. We attempt to make everyone comfortable at this stage in their life by catering to them as if they were family and not simply a temporary visitor. It is very well maintained, always clean and fresh smelling. We have fire sprinklers and prepare home cooked meals daily and offer snacks. Residents are transported to all medical appointments and that cost is included in the monthly board and care rate. Extended Hands contracts with a nurse in the event a resident requires nursing assistance. Residents are always showered and dressed to go out, not simply lying around. They are encouraged to read the paper, participate in games and puzzles, as well as TV watching, take walks around the fenced yard and help with the plants and garden. The licensee/ administrator is a professional who genuinely cares for the residents in her home.

All staff are trained on caring for individuals with varying forms of dementia and Alzheimer's within their first 40 hours of employment. This training includes reviewing written material and videotapes as well as hands-on training with the administrator. We have cared for individuals with Alzheimer's since 2001. Facility has operated since 1998 and is very well maintained and has caring, compassionate staff who are monitored by a hands-on administrator who is on the premises a minimum of 5 days per week and on-call at all times. Diminished abilities or stage of disease that would result in a transfer or discharge:
Extended Hands endeavors to keep all residents it admits until they are no longer living. We have cared for individuals on hospice. However, if a resident becomes violent or combative, or a threat to others in the home, or significantly destroys property, it would be necessary for that resident to be discharged. These are typically the only reason an individual would be discharged.
Special care programs offered for Alzheimer's and Dementia residents:
We encourage residents to use items such as puzzles, board games, card games and even exercising in an effort to keep their memory functioning as much as possible for as long as possible. As you know, each individual has different likes/dislikes and all Alzheimer's patients do not exhibit the same behaviors, so we work with the family on a care plan for each individual.
