Whaler’s Cove, a Safe Harbor in Assisted Living, is located in the historical Hermin L. Bishings building, bordering the Acushnet River. Its spacious apartments and direct resident care are first-rate and unmatched on the South coast. Since its inception in 2002, Whaler’s Cove has flourished to become a well-known and reliable option for seniors and their families to turn to when looking for additional care. Offering 120 units, Whaler’s Cove is one of the largest Assisted Living facilities in the area. In addition to the traditional private pay residents, Whaler’s Cove assists many economically disadvantaged seniors by providing the Group Adult Foster Care Program to those who qualify. Maureen Costa, Executive Director for Whaler’s Cove, has also been a strong advocate of the Veteran’s Aid and Attendance Program, which assists veterans and surviving spouses of veterans in getting the help they need in an Assisted Living Facility. Whaler’s Cove employs the highest standard of healthcare professionals to tend to its residents. A large number of the staff is bilingual, helping to eliminate the language barriers that may occur between residents and their providers. Its staff to resident ratio is one of the highest in the state. Maureen is always promoting individual growth within the organization by offering in-services and training programs to help staff sharpen their skills. Whaler’s Cove has ties to several local vendors, who help supply the services and products for the betterment of the residents. The facility is well-known to area hospitals and rehabilitation facilities as a safe harbor for those in need of additional oversight but not yet appropriate for long-term care. Whaler’s Cove prides itself in promoting independence among residents who are capable and providing the attention and support to those who may need a little extra.
