    Vernon Manor prides itself on providing Quality Care to it's residents. Vernon Manor was awarded the Step I award in Quality in 2007 by AHCA due to our efforts in culture change and patient care. Vernon Manor has a special care unit designed specifically for safety and individual care planning for Alzheimer's/dementia patients. We also have an 18 bed Sub-Acute Unit geared toward hip replacements, knee replacements, and other short term rehabilitation patients.

    Staff certifications and training:
    Vernon Manor Health Care Center is a teaching Skilled Nursing Facility. We teach on an ongoing basis Registered Nursing Students from UCONN, Licensed Practical Nursing Students from Stone Academy as well as Registered Dietician Students from UCONN. We have also provided training to Masters of Social Work Students from UCONN as well. Vernon Manor also has a generous tuition reimbursement program that allows employees to further their training in a health care related field to improve the skills and abilities of it's employees.

    Diminished abilities or stage of disease that would result in a transfer or discharge:
    If a resident with Alzheimer's disease/dementia is deemed unsafe to self or others that individual would be transferred to an appropriate setting until deemed safe to self or others by a physician and then would be able to return to Vernon Manor. Vernon Manor provides all services to their Alzheimer's/dementia patients including in house medical care and psychiatric care.
    Special care programs offered for Alzheimer's and Dementia residents:
    Vernon Manor has a 30 bed Alzheimer's/dementia unit. This unit and it's residents have their own care plan specific to that unit. It provides a secure setting for patients who like to wander freely. There are specially trained staff who work specifically on that unit, daily recreational activities provided both on and off the unit geared specifically toward the memory impaired patient. A Snoozelen program is provided between the hours of 4pm and 7pm for a calming transition into bed time during the most difficult time of the sundowning period.
