Conditions I Am Unable To Treat
patients must be considered to be terminal and have life expectancy of approxamately 6 months or less. This does NOT mean that if a patient is on the service and is still living at the 6 month period, that they have to be d/c'd. A decline in their status with proper documentation of their condition by staff continues to qulify them for the service. It is best to obtain hospice as soon as you have made the decision for palliative care versus curative care instead of waiting until patient is only existing or within a few days of life. This will help the patient and the family better in the long run as it will give hospice the time to develop a trust and better prepare you to deal with upcoming disease processes.
