    Experience And Credentials
    Center Director ~ Bettye Dorn

Bettye Dorn, a native Charlestonian, has been with Active Day since July 2003. She started off as the activity coordinator between two different sites and in 2004 became the assistant administrator for Active Day of Charleston. In 2006 Bettye became the center director.

Bettye is a 1985 graduate of Ashley Hall. In 1989 she graduated from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. She received a BA in Theatre Arts and Speech plus a minor in Religious Philosophy. She was the executive director of the Association for the blind for many years. While there she started their occupational therapy program that is still running strong today. She's been an advocate for people with disabilities and their caregivers for many years. She has served on the Mayor's Committee for Disabilities, a member of the accessibility committee for the Gibbes Museum, and advocated for creative casting for local plays asking the directors to look beyond the wheelchairs.

Bettye believes strongly in the education of caregivers and the community about medical adult day care. She believes in working hard and laughing tons. Her favorite quotation is “A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men” ~ Willy Wonka.
