    About My Business
I have been in private practice as a Porfessional Geriatric Care Manager in Dallas since 1995. My goal is to maximize the elder's independence and quality of life, no matter what the setting.

I begin with an initial in-home or in-hospital assessment. Using this information I develop a Care Plan with recommendations to improve the sitation, both in the short term and for the future. I ofen continue to follow the elder by monitoring care, making suggestions to avoid missteps, and improve care until the end of life.
    About My Services
The assessment helps me become acquainted with the client, both strengths and deficits. The assessment includes a review of medical history, diagnoses and medications, mental status tests, depression screening, functional and nutritional assessments. I gather basic financial and legal information and discuss their experiences with their own parents and their expectations for this time of their life.

The Care Plan contains suggestions about medical concerns, housing, nutrition, and caregiver resources. It may have information on local, state and national agencies that can help. It always includes a Legal documents Checklist, with an explanation of why these papers are necessary and names of local ElderLaw attorneys. I match the needs of the client and family to the recommendations made.

Depending on the situation, I often become a surrogate family member. You have a limited amount of time and energy. You may spend it running errands, going to physicians, arranging care, cooking and cleaning, etc. Or you can choose to spend quality time with your parent and allow me to do the routine tasks. Only you can provide the love.

In addition to Care Management, I facilitate a monthly support group for caregivers that offers not only contact with peers but also my professional experience and insight.

I am the originator and developer of Mental Aerobics, a cognitive stimulation activity intended to raise the self-confidence of older adults. This program has been studied and found effective by researchers at the University of North TX on 3 ocassions and has been publsihed twice in academic journals.
