Behavior is a powerful form of communication and is one of the primary ways for people with dementia to communicate their needs and feelings as the ability to use language is lost. However, some behaviors can present real challenges for caregivers to manage. Join us to learn to decode behavioral messages, identify common behavior triggers, and learn strategies to help intervene with some of the most common behavioral challenges of Alzheimer’s disease.

Additional Information

THIS RECORDING IS FROM A LIVE VIRTUAL PROGRAM ON OCTOBER 25.

Individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias are at increased risk for injury or harm in certain areas of the home. As the disease progresses, they may become unaware of the dangers that exist. Learn about precautions to create a safe environment which can preventdangerous situations and help maximize independence for as long as possible. We'll review the Home Safety Checklist and discuss real life scenarios, challenging dementia behaviors in the homeand potential conflict among families.

This program is delivered by Dr. Jennifer Workman, OTD, OTR/L who is the OTA Academic Fieldwork Coordinator and Instructor at Cape Fear Community College.
