What changes occur with Alzheimer's and the ability to understand and express language? How is communication affected by dementia? Jen will help to unravel how speech, language and communication are impacted by Alzheimer's and provide practical tips on how to best communicate with someone with Alzheimer's throughout the stages of the disease. Jen Kessel is a speech and language pathologist currently working with the Hawaii Department of Education. The "Listen and Learn Lihue Library Lecture Series on Alzheimer's" for 2024 is a monthly educational series featuring a dementia related topic sponsored by the Alzheimer's Association Aloha Chapter and the Lihue Public Library, in conjunction with the Kauai Agency on Elderly Affairs. This series is partially funded by the OAA National Family Caregiver Support Program and will bring local professionals together to educate the community on dementia related issues to help in the diagnosis of, and treatment and care for, individuals with dementia. The program is FREE and open to the public.
