Apr. 21 -Building Foundations of Caregiving
This session explores the role of the caregiver, common emotional and practical changes they may experience, and the importance of building a strong support team. It includes guidance on managing caregiver stress, identifying personal limits, and understanding how the disease may shape day-to-day responsibilities.
Caregivers learn how to help the person living with dementia participate in daily activities while maintaining dignity, autonomy, and safety. This session covers adapting routines, understanding abilities at different stages, offering cues, and using supportive communication to encourage engagement.
This session helps caregivers understand the why behind behaviors such as agitation, confusion, pacing, or resistance. It provides practical strategies to respond with empathy, reduce triggers, support emotional needs, and create a calm, predictable environment that promotes wellbeing.
Caregivers explore how to create a safe and supportive home environment, including fall prevention, home modifications, medication considerations, and personal care techniques. The session also addresses reducing risk in daily tasks like bathing, eating, and mobility.
