This program covers two core topics. First, learn how dementia changes relationships over time, the benefits of person-centered care approaches, how to create a supportive care team and steps to identify and manage caregiver stress. Second, learn how dementia changes a person’s independence and impacts safety, how to provide the right amount of support, and tips to make every activity meaningful to the person living with dementia.

Additional Information

As dementia progresses, changes in communication and behavior can create frustration and uncertainty for caregivers. This session examines how dementia affects a person's ability to communicate and offers practical techniques for improving interactions with loved ones, family members, and healthcare professionals. We will also explore common dementia-related behaviors and learn how these behaviors often serve as a form of communication. Participants will gain strategies for recognizing triggers, responding effectively, and using non-medication approaches to reduce stress and support positive outcomes.

This free program will be held at the RCS Community Library, 95 Main Street, Ravena, NY 12143.
No registration is required.
Join us on October 1, October 15, and October 29, 2026, for this three-part caregiver education series.
