Impact of Alzheimer's - General Audience

Additional Information

Alzheimer's and other dementias are diseases of thebrain, not an inevitable part of getting older. This opening session looks at what's happening inside thebrain: howhealthynerve cells communicate, what changes as Alzheimer's takes hold, and why the disease reaches beyond memory into language, judgment, and mood. Then, learn and practice tools for relaxation through a lens of mindfulness.

Facilitator bios:
Megan Stacey (she/her) is the Albany County Program Manager with the Alzheimer's Association of Northeastern New York. As a member of the care and support team, she works to connectindividuals with all of the free resources the association provides, including the 24/7 helpline, care consultations, support groups, and educational programs. The Associations Goal is to end Alzheimer's and all other dementia- by accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early detection, and maximizing quality care and support. With a strong professional and personal background in memory care, Megan's goal is to ensure that everyone across the northeast facing these diseases- not just those in Albany- know they are not alone.
