This education series teaches caregivers how to navigate the responsibilities of caring for someone living with dementia. Topics include tips for understanding key aspects of caregiving, supporting independence, communicating effectively, responding to dementia-related behaviors and exploring care and support services.
The Empowered Caregiver: Communicating Effectively is an Alzheimer’s Association educational program designed to help caregivers build stronger, more compassionate communication skills when supporting someone living with dementia. Changes caused by dementia can affect a person’s ability to understand, process, and express information, often leading to frustration for both caregivers and individuals living with the disease.
This session provides caregivers with practical strategies to improve communication, reduce misunderstandings, and respond with empathy and patience. Participants will learn how verbal and nonverbal communication, tone, body language, and environmental factors can influence interactions and overall well-being.
Caregivers will leave with useful tools to support meaningful connections, manage challenging situations, and maintain respectful and positive communication throughout the caregiving journey, along with information about Alzheimer’s Association resources.
